Hey there everyone! Sorry it’s been a while, but I’m back now!

I’ve been at National Unified Auditions the past several days auditioning for MT and acting BFA programs so things have been a little crazy, but I wanted to debut my first series of Lydia’s Lustings! Each month I’ll be listing the products I’m lusting over this month and basically drooling over them. I wanted to use my monthly wishlists as a launching point to rant and discuss makeup with all y’all! Without further ado, here’s my makeup and skincare wishlist of the month!

Post Breakup Makeup (and Pampering)

Post Breakup Makeup (and Pampering)

breakups1-600x310

Breakups are hard. There are thousands of songs about how much love can suck.

My ex and I broke up about a week ago. We met at the musical theater intensive I was involved in over the summer and he was my first real relationship. Long distance relationships are hard, and it was time for ours to come to an end. I look forward to meeting someone new who will treat me right.

Easier said than done, right? Breakups are hard for both parties, and this transitory stage has to be handled in a healthy way. My breakup sophomore absolutely destroyed me, but channeling your grief into taking care of yourself will help you move onto a new chapter in your life. I hope that my tips can give you some solace. Know that if you need someone to talk I’m always here for my readers.

Why Korean Skincare is Overrated as Hell

Why Korean Skincare is Overrated as Hell

So why is Jessica so freaking perfect? The world may never know.

First of all, no hate here. I enjoyed traveling to Korea and love Korean makeup and skincare. However, the supposed statements saying that “They’re [Korean products] about 12 years ahead of the States in terms of technology,” (Mary Schook in Marie Claire) are false. Let’s examine why.

I’ve read quite a few articles like the one above where people attempt to say that Korean technology is twelve years ahead. Twelve years ahead? Really? Look at the labels of many skincare products from popular brands like Laneige, Innisfree or Nature Republic and the ingredients aren’t revolutionary or high tech. So why say that Korean technology is so far ahead? I think the reason people make this statement is not because of skincare in itself- its that Korean cosmetic procedures are cheap, easy and exceptionally common. Therefore it isn’t necessarily that Korean products are making Korean skin so good- it’s that cosmetic procedures make skin good, and products maintain them. I’d say the only thing “advanced” about Korean products is that they are different and innovative- like sheet masks, bb cushions (notice I didn’t say bb creams themselves because those can be credited to Germany) and lip tints like the Berrisom peel off mask. (My new fave, by the way.)

Best Lip Balms Ever

Best Lip Balms Ever

It’s no secret to anyone that I’m obsessed with lip balms. I probably have one for every day of the year!

Okay, that’s a bit of exaggeration, but I have been in love with some tried and true products I’d like to share with you! These are the best lip balms I’ve tried and would recommend to pretty much anyone. I took pictures so you can get an idea of the size and packaging.

1. Smith’s Mocha Rose Lip Balm

This is such an amazing formula, even Elle Fanning stated she was a fan in this month’s Marie Claire. I’m super cheap, so when I saw this for six dollars at a local bath and beauty store on State Street (The Soap Opera), I thought it was outrageous., but my friends were also buying potted balms so I had to give it a try.

Outfit of the Day: Spring Colors of 2014

Outfit of the Day: Spring Colors of 2014

Hey there everyone!

It’s The Fashion Mentor, and I’m here to share two of my most recent outfits with you. Spring is here, and it’s definitely a great time to freshen up your closet with the spring colors of 2014.

Cayenne is one of the Pantone colors of year, and has been used in many designs as of late. I prefer to think of this color as a deep coral or pink sienna, but it is gorgeous nonetheless. As you can see below, I’m hooked!

I made the skirt and matching collar and picked up the shirt from a friend, originally Hanes. The bow shoes are from Payless.

Four of the Best Spring Makeup Tips

Four of the Best Spring Makeup Tips

Fashion Blog 421 002

Hey there everyone! The Fashion Mentor is here to give you her best spring makeup tips!

As the seasons change, your makeup and skincare routine must also do so accordingly. Check these five tips to get a head start this season!

1. Mix your primer and moisturizer!

Not only does primer give your makeup a great staying power, but it also creates a smooth base for makeup that is essential, especially with those who are trying to cover acne or scarring. Moisturizer, on the other hand, helps protect the condition of the skin. My favorite new technique is to mix a minute amount of my favorite moisturizers (Beyond Belief Lift and Firm) with my primer (ELF). It not only keeps my makeup in place, but also leaves my skin soft. I find that this mixing of products gives a great finish.
